I had always wondered how "God the Son" could be an eternal person and a partner with God the Father---even before Jesus was born. Was he a preexistent spirit, different than God? So I wrote this after several years at a graduate school studying the evolution of this theory. This is concise ABC review of what happened. Almost 300 footnotes leading the reader to the study and original sources. Hope you enjoy it!
Bro. Davidson is an anointed writer and teacher. His knowledge of church history and doctrine shines through in this work. An excellent resource to assist every Christian to "rightly divide the word of God".
If you want the truth, then the tradition of how the trinity came into being is a must for all true Christians. This book has the evidence. You will find out things that will astound your sensibilities. A good read for anyone who wants the low down on the this Catholic Teaching (Doctrine) that has manifested itself in Protestant churches worldwide. You won't be disappointed (except if you love man-made ideas instead of God breathed inspiring words).
I thought this was a good read on a complex topic. The main point is to systematically show that the Trinity was a developed doctrine vs a revealed truth. The author does a good job of not getting bogged down on an overly scholarly manner.
This is a very good read. Not new information, as the footnotes show, but it is a concise reference to see the progression of this teaching. The book systematically shows that the trinitarian concept was a developed doctrine vs a revealed truth, and in fact some of it earliest forms are quite contrary to the version they hold to today. My favorite part is that the footnotes lead the reader to study the original sources and let them see the truth for themselves. Not overly scholarly, needing dictionaries to understand the concepts, but over all still a good scholarly work.
This book is well researched, and thoughtful. The information given is provocative, and helpful in understanding the origin of many church doctrine's. It seriously sheds light upon the need too study and show yourself approved rightly dividing the word of truth, as the scripture instructs. Prayer before study, so that The Holy Ghost will reveal true understanding, and how to apply it to our lives is of paramount importance. The lie that many church doctrines embrace, can only be debunked by prayer, and thoughtful study of the Word of truth, and a willingness too speak by the anointing of the Holy Ghost, what he has shown you. This is such a book.
Davidson has given us an unbiased, historical account of the development of trinity. I appreciated his posting of the various creeds. To any thinking, educated mind, these creeds, while containing elements of truth, are full of double talk. As a baby in Christ, attending a Presbyterian church I was so puzzled by the implication that there were 3 persons in the Godhead. Who, I questioned, was I supposed to pray to? I searched for God with all my heart. God led me to a local oneness, Pentecostal church. I continued to question and study the Word. I was baptized the Bible way, according to Acts 2.38, and filled with the Holy Spirit. Today my entire family is saved. Thank you Bro. Davidson for your time and study of Truth.
